In the latest update, Apple officially added iPhone XS Max (launched in 2018) and iPhone 6s Plus (launched in 2015) to the group of devices considered classic. This means that both product lines will no longer receive official software updates from Apple.
According to Apple's regulations, a device is considered vintage if it has been out of production for about 5 to 7 years. Meanwhile, products classified as obsolete will have a production stoppage of over 7 years.
Even though Apple no longer sells these products, users can still have them repaired if replacement parts are available. However, iPhone 6s Plus is a special case because it has been on the market for nearly 9 years.
Impressions of iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus
When launched, both of these devices made a strong impression thanks to the largest screen size at that time. iPhone 6s Plus has a 5.5-inch screen, while iPhone XS Max is equipped with a 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED screen, providing a sharper and more vivid visual experience.
In addition, each line has its own outstanding features. iPhone 6s Plus is Apple's first product line to integrate 3D Touch technology, allowing the screen to respond according to the user's pressure level. The device also improves the camera with optical image stabilization, providing outstanding photo and video quality.
Meanwhile, the iPhone XS Max inherits Face ID technology from the iPhone X, but has been much improved. In addition, this model is also equipped with a powerful A12 Bionic processor chip, providing high performance and outstanding graphics processing capabilities.
Other devices in the classic list
Not only iPhone XS Max and 6s Plus, Apple also added Watch Series 2 to the group of outdated devices. Introduced in 2016, this smartwatch attracted attention thanks to its water resistance and built-in GPS, meeting the needs of users in sports and outdoor activities.
The inclusion of these devices in the classic and obsolete list is an important milestone, showing that the life cycle of Apple technology products has gradually entered the final stage. However, for those who love and appreciate their historical value, these are still iconic devices.
