How HydroWatt Zero is supporting innovators for food security

Extreme weather events, which threaten crops and livestock, are becoming more prevalent as the changing climate alters weather patterns.

According to the European Environment Agency (EEA), Europe has experienced an increasing number of severe weather-related natural hazards, including droughts, forest fires, heatwaves, storms and heavy rain, over the past decade.

“These events are unfortunate reminders of the changing and volatile climate that Europe needs to adapt and prepare for, while taking action to drastically reduce carbon emissions in order to slow down and limit climate change,” says a spokesperson for the EEA.

It’s therefore crucial that we create more sustainable supply chains to protect food security, both now and in the future, which is where HydroWatt Technologies comes in. The UAE-based sustainability consultancy firm, offers food and beverage suppliers and manufacturers, support in becoming more sustainable.

“We work with farmers, technology providers and wholesalers to provide high quality, high demand and high yield solutions,” says Albert Kanaan, founder of HydroWatt Technologies.

And now, the sustainable start-up is looking to grow operations, working with people across industry and education.

“Our aim is to partner with technology providers, academia and research institutes, as well as finance organisations,” says Kanaan.

They’re also focussing on supporting other start-ups within the sustainability space.

“We offer different approaches to partnerships,” says Kanaan. “These can be through distribution agreements, incubation of technologies that are still under development, and finally through partnerships with research institutes so that collaborations can be made to advance sustainability and efficiency of food production.”
